As I reported back in August, AYANEO has finally lifted the lid on the company’s next Android handheld, the AYANEO Pocket S.
The main hook of the new handheld is the introduction of the super-powered Snapdragon G3x Gen 2 chipset. Even up against the AYANEO’s own handheld the Pocket Air, this chipset offers faster clock speeds and should result in greater performance, especially when it comes to emulation. AYANEO is also keen to point out the Adreno GPU can reach speeds of up to 1Ghz, which the company says is around 320Ghz higher than some modern mobile devices. Take that last bit with a pinch of salt.
For the screen, AYANEO has gone with a six-inch borderless mirror screen that’s capable of up to 1440p. As someone who reviewed the Razer Edge, complete with its awful borders, that sounds great. It’s also got a pixel density of 490PPI and a brightness of 400 nits. On the color front, the Pocket S boasts a 120 percent sRGB gamut volume and 100 percent sRGB gamut coverage. That last bit basically means color should reflect the intended colors rather than what the screen is or isn’t capable of.
Lastly, AYANEO says a controller-like grip will be available for those unsold on the square phone-like design. Storage will also be available in different sizes from 16GB to 1TB.
Pricing info is yet to be revealed, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the Pocket S comes in much higher than the Pocket Air’s $279 starter price. If you’d like to sign up for updates, click here to learn more about the Pocket S’ IndieGoGo page.
