It was bound to happen. Someone has finally created a vinyl PS1 skin for the Steam Deck.
We’ve previously seen a Portal skin for the Deck, and while that skin is lovely, there’s no denying the nostalgia of the PS1 skin. Especially given how much of an emulation device the Steam Deck is. It’s like it’s reached its final form.
Availability and Price
The skin itself is available through LuxSkins or Miranda over on Etsy and makes use of 3M vinyl. I don’t know what that means either, but it’s a type of vinyl apparently. Shrug emote.
Cost-wise, on the LuxSkins site it sells for $42.99, while on Etsy it’s £30.95.
Obviously whenever discussing Steam Deck vinyl skins, it’s important to note the final product may not look like it does in the rendered image. Etsy has a habit of showing review images below items, though, so definitely check there first to see what it looks like in person.
You’ll also want to make sure you’ve got a hairdryer nearby, too. They are your secret weapon when applying vinyl skins. If something isn’t fitting, heat it gently and it’ll become more pliable. Oh, and be sure to clean the Deck beforehand. You’d be amazed at how filthy the thing gets.
In other retro handheld news I’m shoehorning in, did you see NYXI has revealed its new GameCube-inspired Nintendo Switch controller? It looks great, and my mind is always thinking about whether it’ll work wirelessly with the Steam Deck.
