It looks as though the much-loved, difficult-to-purchase Miyoo Mini is getting a new, slightly larger version called the Miyoo Mini+.
As is customary with leaks, there’s very little info to go with it. According to RetroDodo, a source claimed the Miyo Mini+ will feature custom firmware compatibility, meaning operating systems like OnionOS will, potentially, be available.
Miyoo Mini+ Potential Specficiations
This isn’t confirmed, but given the specs of the Miyoo Mini V2, and even the Anbernic RGXX, we may be able to get a rough of idea of what a console of this size is and isn’t capable of.
The Anbernic RGXX features a 3.5-inch IPS display and comes in at 4.6 inches by 3.1 inches. The Miyoo Mini+, meanwhile, looks a similar size in the images (via Reddit user Mezuki92). It’s possible, then, that the two consoles could be aiming to use similar parts.
In terms of power, the original Miyoo Mini makes use of an ARM Cortex-A7 dual-core processor at 1.2 GHz paired with 128MB of RAM. It’s possible Miyoo could reuse those parts again in the Miyoo Mini+, but that would leave the Mini+ in a weaker state compared with the RGXX, which utilizes a Quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor with 256MB of RAM.
If I were to make an educated guess, I reckon Miyoo will increase the power somewhat, and something mirroring the higher power of the RGXX seems more likely.
Emulation
The Miyoo Mini+ isn’t a Steam Deck. That’s a given. It will most likely be a low-cost device geared toward fans of the 8-bit and 16-bit eras of gaming.
Up to PS1 is surely where the Miyoo Mini+ will tap out. Plus there’s no second analog stick, so playing PS1 and anything above that would be a nightmare anyway.
But for SNES, Genesis/Mega Drive, and Game Boy games, there’s more than enough power here to emulate with fairly accurate results.
Miyoo Mini+ Price
The Miyoo Mini is one of the most affordable consoles out there. At just $78.62, it’s seriously affordable.
Whether Miyoo will keep prices low for the Miyoo Mini+ remain to be seen. Surely if affordability is its thing, they’d stick with that, right? Going with previous pricing, I’m excepting the Miyoo Mini+ to launch somewhere in the region of $100 to $120. We’ll have to wait and see, though.
