Anbernic RG35XX

Anbernic RG35XX Is an Affordable Take on the Miyoo Mini

Hot off the heels of the successful RG505, Anbernic is back with the super-budget Anbernic RG35XX.

The new console appears as an attempt to capitalize on the success of the Miyoo Mini – it’s small, cheap, and uses low-cost tech. For those looking for high-end power, this ain’t it. But if you’re after something fun that fits in your pocket that won’t break the bank? Anbernic may be onto something here.

What Is the Anbernic RG35XX?

Three different color options of the RG35XX - gray, clear, and white.

Coming in at just 4.6 inches in length, this is one of Anbernic’s smaller consoles. I’m not sure how many times I can compare it with the Miyoo Mini, but the design clearly takes its cues from the ever-popular handheld.

It’s worth noting, this console isn’t designed to play anything high-end. Up to PS1 is surely where this thing will cap out. And even then, given the internals and lack of an analog stick, PS1 may be pushing it. That said, the original PS1 only housed 2MB of RAM, so in theory, the RG35XX should be more than capable of running anything from the PS1 and below.

Anbernic RG35XX Specifications

Anbernic RG35XX specs, which are listed below in the article.

The specs of the RG35XX aren’t anything to get excited over, and that’s totally fine. This thing isn’t going to be playing AAA titles or GameCube anytime soon, nor is it intended to. For what Anbernic is selling this as, the specs are more than enough to offer clean emulation.

That’s on paper, of course. How the operating system will handle running emulators we won’t know until people have gone hands-on. But in theory, yeah, this should be enough to play up to PS1 without many problems.

What Can the RG35XX Emulate?

The gray RG35XX with Street Fighter Alpha running.

As is always the case, we need to wait and see what the RG35XX is capable of. If we’re going by the specs, though, we can theorize fairly accurately what the console should be able to emulate.

Up to PS1 is where we expect this device to tap out. As mentioned above, the PS1 shipped with just 2MB of RAM, so the onboard 256MB of RAM should be more than capable of emulation alongside what’s needed for the operating system.
