After being shutdown by Nintendo, the Switch emulator Yuzu is back (again) in the form of Citron.
By the sound of it, Citron appears to be based on similar code to that of Yuzu, so while performance may have been improved in some areas, it should work in a similar fashion.
Check it out in action below.
Citron is currently available for Windows, Linux, and Android, with support for custom Qualcomm drivers if you’re playing on an Ayn Odin 2 or similar device.
How long will Citron be around for? Probably not that long to be honest. Nintendo has made a point of going after both pirates and emulation software in recent years, resulting in the closure of Switch emulators Yuzu and Ryujinx, and 3DS emulator Citra.
In the case of Yuzu, Nintendo convinced a court that Yuzu circumvents Nintendo copyrights in allowing users to bypass custom-made cryptographic keys. By using a fork of Yuzu to create Citron, one could argue it’s only a matter of time until Nintendo catches wind of the new emulator and pulls the plug.
In other emulation news, Anbernic has revealed the RG406H, a PS Vita-like handheld that ditches the standard 16:9 screen in favor of a more retro 4:3 aspect ratio, and is touted as being able to play up to PS2.
Thanks, Overkill.
