AYANEO always has a lot of handhelds in the works. Just yesterday covered the AYANEO Air 1S, a handheld that boasts RDNA 3 graphics and a powerful Ryzen 7 CPU.
Now, AYANEO has revealed its latest offering in the AYANEO KUN, which the company claims is its most powerful handheld to date.
At a Glance
- The AYANEO KUN is the company’s most powerful Windows handheld, allegedly.
- Features an 8.4-inch screen. The largest seen on a Windows handheld.
- Uses an eight-way, disc-style D-pad.
- Includes Hall effect joysticks to avoid drift.
- Also boasts a fingerprint scanner and a camera for logging in.
AYANEO KUN Specs
The AYANEO KUN features a frankly massive 8.4-inch screen. That makes the device’s screen larger than both the Steam Deck and the ASUS ROG Ally. The device will also feature “the longest battery life” and has the “best heat dissipation performance,” according to the AYANEO Discord.
How true any of that is I don’t know. We’ll need to wait until the official reveal before anything is close to being decided.
What’s interesting about the AYANEO KUN is the device takes a lot of its cues from the Steam Deck while looking very different. It features two circular trackpads and includes double rear buttons. Those trackpads are sure to make traversing Windows all the more fluid.
As for the controller setup, the KUN has an Xbox Elite Controller-style eight-way, disc-shaped d-pad and makes use of Hall sensing sticks, meaning you won’t suffer drift ever. It’s also got a fingerprint scanner and face camera for logging in.
Conclusion
No release date or any extra info was mentioned, but AYANEO says the KUN will arrive on IndieGoGo “soon”. You can sign up to be notified of any updates over on the IndieGoGo page.
It’s hard to get too excited at a tease like this, but AYANEO has a track record of designing and releasing killer products that often live up to the hype. As a Steam Deck alternative that makes use of a similar layout, the potential here is solid.
What it all comes down to is what tech AYANEO has on the inside. If it is the company’s most powerful handheld, then that means it’s going to have to best the AYANEO Air 1S, which is no easy feat.
As always, stay tuned to RetroResolve and I’ll be sure to update this article as soon as we learn more.
